Candice Kempton

Candice Kempton plays the fiddle, mandolin, guitar, piano, and hammered dulcimer. Music is one of her greatest loves, and she feels very lucky to have found such great friends to play with. Whenever possible, she loves spending time with her children and grandchildren. She currently works at the Book Table as the music department manager.

Genet Brown

Genet has been playing bass for about 10 years. She also plays dulcimer, tin whistle and clarinet. She teaches for Cache Children's Choir, and has fun chasing around her son Landon and keeping track of son Zach and husband Shane.

Kristen Day

Dancing ever since she could walk and picking up the violin at the age of four, Kristen Day comes from a a background immersed in the arts. Graduate of Violin Performance and Pedagogy at BYU she uses her experience to teach others the joy of music through private violin instruction and a parent-toddler music class. It is only recently she has made folk and bluegrass a continuation of her studies. Performing with Sassafras has enabled her to renew her creative energy and share her love of the fiddle. When she’s not fiddlin’, her husband (who, by the way, she met at a bluegrass party) and her three adorable children keep her busy.

Marianne Sidwell

Marianne plays guitar, dulcimer, folk fife, piano and flute. She has her fingers in a lot of pots these days, what with working, teaching and running her four children around to lessons and activities. Being a part of Sassafras, however, and playing her guitar is her therapy. Her husband, David, says if she didn't have the chance to perform, she'd probably be an axe murderer! Well, maybe it wouldn't come to that, but she would certainly eat way too much ice cream!

Betty Leishman

Although Betty’s first musical instrument was the accordion her mother bought from a door-to-door salesman, the banjo is her true love. She began serious study of the banjo while her children were small. Her sons grew up believing all moms played the banjo. Betty has played in folk groups and bands, accompanied choirs and stage productions, anywhere the sound of the banjo is needed – which, of course, is everywhere!!!
